Alan Johns Jewellers, Truro

One of the County's most established jewellery businesses, in the heart of Truro, is for sale after 35 years of successful trading. Alan Johns Jewellers is located in the busy thoroughfare of Tippets Backlet, River Street Truro. Owners Alan and Olive Johns now wish to retire and have put the business on the market at a guide price of £69,950.

Mr Johns, who trained as a clockmaker in Japan and Switzerland, has been in the jewellery business since he was 17 and has repaired the clocks on St Michael's Mount and the turret of Alverton Manor. He says "over the years we have established a very good customer base. We now find ourselves doing business with the second and third generation of original clients' families. Because we are an independent retailer, we stock niche designer brands, which cannot be found in the larger chains. Business has been good recently, notably sales of wedding rings, because customers know they can come to this shop and choose something unique".

Accounts for the year ending March 2010 show a net profit approaching £70,000.
