The Old Arts School, Clinton Road, Redruth

A building which forms part of Cornwall's mining heritage has been re-engineered for 21st century business use.
Originally the Redruth School of Mines, the Old Arts School on Clinton Road was built in 1882 as a Public School for men wishing to be mine captains. It was the first establishment to form what is now the internationally renowned Camborne School of Mines. The building remained in use as an educational establishment later housing the Redruth School of Art right up until 1986 when it was acquired by the present owner Mrs Jill Leiworthy and her husband Sidney.
Mrs Leiworthy and her daughter Marie Rodda, who have renovated several historical Cornish establishments, says "there was Planning Permission in place to knock down the school and construct a block of 6 flats but Cornwall Council recognised its heritage value and offered the building to us to save it from demolition.
Whilst the exterior of the building has been kept the same, the interior has been completely revamped to create a 'state of the art' light and airy office space. All the IT and electrics have been installed to the highest specification. We feel this would be an ideal space for any business venture, and because of the generous light, would particularly appeal to any design architect or IT related business".
The premises are being offered leasehold at an annual rental of £10 per sq ft. Mike Nightingale says "these premises offer quality office space of a particularly high specification. Its location, near the centre of Redruth and the mainline railway station together with having easy access to the A30, is great for transport links. We can accommodate requirements from 350 sq ft to 2350 sq ft Dependant upon lease terms, tenants' incentives are available".
