Back of the Net!

With arguably one of the worst trading years across all industrial sectors in 2009, 2010 has been ushered in with a fleeting glimpse of optimism that "things can only get better"! It may be the prospect of an early Easter, another barbeque summer (you heard it here first), England lifting the Jules Rimet cup in the summer or, more likely, it will be the culmination of finally putting the football over the metaphorical line.

2009 proved to be an extremely frustrating year for the buying public, brokers, banks and long-suffering applicants. Despite everyone working together to try and make a deal happen, the external forces in terms of the housing market, general market confidence, negativity in some specialist press and the lack of strong trading accounts (following on from several poor summers), meant there was much ado about nothing!

Now that the Noughties have passed, however, it would appear that all the woes (with a smack of cynicism) are behind us, and in the first month of the New Year, Miller Commercial have agreed sales on a veritable smorgasbord of instructions, including a retail business, free and leasehold public house, free and leasehold restaurant, several guesthouses and other specialist businesses, all of which have been simmering away for several months.

Along with more optimism and a heightened willingness from the banks to lend, we have just learnt that the UK economy is now finally out of recession. This news will obviously bode well in further lifting consumer confidence and will hopefully result in improved activity for all specialist commercial agents across the region.

Apart from the glorious summer and feast of footie to look forward to, we do of course, have the General Election most probably in May, which could cause a ripple of uncertainty, but let's not let that spoil what should be a better year all-round.
