Good news for Helston town centre as international coffee company confirms it is moving in.
Earlier this week Cornwall Council approved the Planning Application submitted by Kernow Koffi Ltd to place a Costa Coffee shop at the former Dorothy Perkins store in Meneage Street.
The lease was negotiated by Mike Nightingale who says "The fact that Costa Coffee are investing in Helston is a positive sign for the town's retail future. It's the second good news deal this year. In August we arranged a new 10 year lease for WC Rowe Bakers to move into a larger 'flagship' store just a couple of doors away."
Costa's decision to invest in the town comes as new figure show the town's vacancy rates have dropped again to 6.6 per cent, with seven shops standing empty, compared to a national average of 14.5 per cent.
Helston's new coffee shop is one of a clutch of new stores Costa is planning to open in the South West including premises in Kingsbridge, Gloucester, Cheltenham, Swindon, Frome, Wells and Warminster.
Marcus Iggulden, Costa's Regional Manager for Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, said "Our existing stores in the South West are performing very well and we feel there is a strong market for more sites in the region."
Local businessman Simon Wright who is the franchisee for the new Costa Coffee Shop says that they will be employing 3 to 4 full time staff and 4 part time staff. He added "We plan to open in February and we sincerely hope this store will draw shopper into Helston."
