A Promising Future For Cornish Building Contractor


R M Developments Ltd is the lead company in a consortium of four building contractors (FourCornwall) and has been awarded more than £307,397 of ERDF (European Regional Development Fund) Convergence Investment towards building a new headquarters at United Downs, St Day.

The money will assist in extending and refurbishing R M Developments' existing property at United Downs, creating more factory space and new offices - built to BREEAM Excellent Standard. BREEAM sets the standard for Best Practice in sustainable design and has become the measure of a building's environmental performance. Achieving this standard will make this building one of the most cost efficient and environmentally sound commercial buildings in the area.

Building contractors in Cornwall are finding it difficult to maintain staff numbers and invest in training programmes resulting in a loss of skills within the Duchy.

 Brian Botting and Stuart IvallContracts Manager for R M Developments, Stuart Ivall says "the new building at United Downs will be used to provide training facilities not only for our own staff but also for other construction industry businesses. It will also provide a centrally located administrative headquarters for FourCornwall".

A successful application for the funding was put together over 12 months by one of our Partners, Brian Botting. Brian Botting says "this injection of European money enables the project to be undertaken during these difficult times when it wouldn't have gone ahead speculatively. In other words it was not viable without European Investment to share the risk".

Carleen Kelemen, Director of the Convergence Partnership Office for Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly, said, "this investment will strengthen the construction industry in Cornwall by supporting expansion into high quality workspace as well as offering training for many in the industry".
