The UK’s Largest Retirement Property Developer drawn to West Cornwall

Retirement Home Specialists, McCarthy & Stone have been granted Planning Permission to build 37 1 and 2-bedroom apartments at Carbis Bay near St Ives.

The developer acquired the site at Helca Drive, adjacent to Tesco supermarket and with views out over the bay, and propose a scheme providing 15 x 2-bedroom and 22 x 1-bedroom apartments, specifically for "Later Living" and is typically designed for people of 60 or over.

Typical Living AreaThe development will incorporate a House Manager, lifts, state of the art fire, security and emergency calling facilities, together with guest accommodation, shared lounge and car parking.

Over the past 30 years McCarthy & Stone have built 45,000 apartments nationwide. The Carbis Bay flats will be the company's 4th project in Cornwall; they already have apartment complexes in Newquay and Launceston, and are planning to create more at the site of Brookdale Hotel on Tregolls Road in Truro.

Peter Heather - Partner says "the proximity of the site to a major supermarket serving the town was a big draw for the developer, bearing in mind that the town centre is already heavily developed, offering few if any alternative sites within the centre itself".The company's Sales & Marketing Director commented "we are thrilled to be introducing the McCarthy & Stone lifestyle to St Ives for the very first time in the company's history. As specialists in retirement, we understand what our customers want and pride ourselves on offering the ideal place for our purchasers to make the most of their later years in absolute comfort, without relinquishing either their independence or home ownership".

We are now retained by McCarthy & Stone to secure sites elsewhere in Cornwall, with particular focus on Penzance, Falmouth and Padstow.

Work on the Carbis Bay development is anticipated to be completed by August 2013.
