A record number of new companies have set up in Truro this year according to national figures just released.
The research carried out by Duport Associates Ltd*, a leading company formation agent, reveals 154 new companies were formed in the City over the first 3 months of the year, more than any other quarter on record for the area, and a 7% rise on the same period in 2012.
Managing Director of Duport, Peter Valaitis, commented "Truro is the No.1 destination for retail and leisure in Cornwall, as well as being the administrative centre of the County, so it's not surprising new companies are choosing to set up there. New business in the area will help diversify the economic base, helping to strengthen the local economy in the future".
We have successfully negotiated more than 10 Lease Agreements for businesses, either setting up or relocating to premises in Truro since January - and there are more in the pipeline.
Partner Mike Nightingale says "two such companies formed this year which we have dealt with are, Three Rivers Furniture which has set up in Kenwyn Street and Clive Pearce Estate Agents, who has opened in Lemon Street.
Our experience in the County tells us that a Truro postcode is still the most desirable in terms of business. Central addresses like Lemon Street have always been viewed as prestigious but outlying areas such as Newham and Threemilestone also offer really good value for leasehold tenants".
Further good news for Truro was that company closures dropped by 66% during the first quarter, leading to an overall rise in net company growth. The UK company share of the City also rose sharply during the same period.
